The Water Gypsies are a hot jazz band who performed and lived along the Kennet and Avon canal. This album is made up of tunes recorded in 2018 and 2019.

While playing within the traditions of gypsy jazz we tried to develop our own canal side style, focusing on innovative arrangements that merged jazz and folk. The arrangement 'Douce Chaos' was made to reflect the gentle chaos that is life on the canal and our arrangement of 'Coquette' features a recording of the canal side dawn chorus. Part of our unique sound also came from our exclusive use of National resonator guitars.

With the rhythm section living on boats, the band were a mainstay at many canal side taverns and three of the tunes presented here were recorded on the towpath at Bradford on Avon and Bathampton. The other tunes were recorded in Bristol at J and J Studio.

Whilst the band are no longer together, we hope you enjoy these tunes and for those that remember our gigs, that they bring back fond memories of those happy times
